Why Do I Need an Ultrasound?

You may think a positive pregnancy test and a late period are all the information you need. But there is much more to know. The following three reasons are why you don’t want to skip a free ultrasound:

Reason #1: Learn How Far Along You Are

Studies show using a period tracker app isn’t reliable. Ovulation (when you are most likely to get pregnant) is challenging to predict, and only 8% of the apps available determined the correct date in the study. An ultrasound gives you the best information possible.

Reason #2: Confirm Pregnancy Viability

Did you know experts estimate as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage? It is possible to get a positive pregnancy test result days or even weeks after a miscarriage.

An ultrasound detects a heartbeat to determine if your pregnancy is growing (viable) or if you have miscarried. We offer both abdominal and transvaginal ultrasounds depending on the estimated length of your pregnancy.

Reason #3: Find the Location

Most pregnancies form inside the uterus, but some can form on the outside. This type of pregnancy is known as ectopic and can be extremely dangerous to your health. Signs of an ectopic pregnancy include abdominal pain and bleeding.

You are more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy if you have a sexually transmitted infection (STI), use an IUD for birth control, or smoke.
